Could you organise a Society event?
The St Catharine’s College Alumni Society aspires to be the best College alumni society in Cambridge, helping to foster a sense of community and encouraging alumni to take a lifelong interest in the College, as well as supporting each other’s careers, celebrating achievements and enjoying a range of social activities together. As well as alumni members, we are delighted to welcome Associate Members to our events, typically people with a strong personal connection to the College.
To that end we are seeking to expand the number of alumni around the world who are willing to organise at least one event a year. Recent events have included visits to Chelsea Physic Garden, Westminster Abbey, the gardens at Highgrove, a tour of the SAID Business School in Oxford, followed by a lecture by the President of our Society Professor Peter Tyler on ‘The Cambridge Phenomenon’, and a guided walk around Bristol looking at the impact of the slave trade on the city.
Society members have come together for concerts at the Music@Malling festival, for wine-tastings, a talk by the Master (‘Behind the Scenes in the House of Commons’), dinner at the Ulster Reform Club in Belfast, a visit to the RSC theatre in Stratford Upon Avon, and a guided walk round parts of London connected with Catz thespians, comedians and performers. We have enjoyed rounds of golf and leisurely afternoons at various county cricket grounds and groups have met for dinner in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, Japan, Australia and America.
Events like this are tremendous fun and not difficult to organise. If you think you could help, contact the ADO (alumni.office@caths.cam.ac.uk) who will send you guidance on what is involved and how we can help to promote the event and handle bookings. Our events sell out quickly and it would be wonderful to have a lot more of them!
